Parallel Accelerators and Algorithms for Multi-Scale Agent-Based Modelling and Simulation

Abstract

Agent-based modelling has become an important tool for studying complex systems ina range of application disciplines. Many of teh important phenomena are only accessable however over multiple length and temporal scales and large number of agents need to be simulated. We describe how various forms of parallel computing can be applied to multi-scale agent-based modelling and focus in particular on accelerator devices including graphical processing units and and multi-core co-processors. We review several multi agent simulation algorithms and present scalability results for various applications and parallel devices.
